Donald Ray Batteau

	Mr. Donald Ray Batteau, age 64, passed away Friday, June 22, 2001 in Corpus Christi, Texas.  
	He was born January 9, 1937 in Elkville to Clifford E. Batteau and Helen (Carter) Batteau.  He graduated from Elkville Community High School in 1955 and shortly thereafter entered the U.S. Navy where he served 30 years, attaining the rank of Fleet Force Master Chief (E-9).  Mr. Batteaus service included several stints at sea aboard aircraft carriers, including duty near Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He also served during the Vietnam Conflict.  among his accomplishments were the Navy Achievement Medal with Bronze Star, Navy Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with one star. 
	 Mr. Batteau was a member of the Al Amin Shrine Temple in Corpus Christi, Texas and the Masonic Lodge of DeSoto, Illinois.  He was a Lutheran.
	Mr. Batteau was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford E. and Helen Margaret Batteau; a sister, Dorothy Jean Batteau and brother, Clifford E. Batteau Jr.  He is survived by his wife, Ola Mae Lunz Batteau of Pernita Point, Texas; a daughter, Dawna Rae Batteau of Christopher; step-daughters, Denise and husband Mark Wars of Kingwood, Tex. and Debbie and husband Charles Schroeder of Conroe, Tex.; step-son, Kenneth and his wife Colleen Kirchoff of Huffman, Tex.; sisters, Sharlet E. Piper of DeSoto, Georgia Aldridge of Schaumburg, Ill, Mary Ellen Willoughby of Wichita, Kan.; brothers, Billy Batteau of Vergennes and John Thomas Batteau of DuQuoin; step-mother, Pauline Batteau of Murphysboro; granddaughter, Kancesha Lynn Miller of Christopher; seven step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; uncle, Jack Batteau of Elkville; aunts, Judy Batteau of Elkville, Manetta Smith of DeSoto, Katherine Smith of Johnson City, Sarah Hons of St. Louis, Mo., Sue Batteau of DuQuoin, mary Kias of Bocca Raton, Fla., two step-brothers and three step-sisters of Murphysboro and several nieces and nephews.
	Funeral services in Texas were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orange Grove, Texas with Rev. Michael Gabby.
	Visitation was held at the Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro on Thursday, June 28 from 5 until 9 p.m.   Masonic services were conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
	Funeral services in Murphysboro were held at the Crawshaw Funeral Home on Friday, June 29 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Franklyn A. Schroeder.  Burial was held at the DeSoto City Cemetery with full military honors conducted by :  American Legion Post 127 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7190, both in Murphysboro, VFW Post 2605 in Carbondale and Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69 and the United States Navy.
